PAC Pointer - Revised Franchise Tax

Filings under the revised franchise tax are due May 15th.  With virtually every form of business offering limited liability protection covered by the tax there will be a significant number of new filers.  Even those who paid under the old franchise tax will be faced with a wholly different tax structure.

 

The statute and rules governing the new tax give us a good framework for calculating our liability, but many questions remain open.  Both taxpayers and the state comptroller's office will be working through some murky waters for this first filing.  The restaurant industry in particular has some challenges in computing the tax.

Gus Katsigris Honored

 

Costas "Gus" Katsigris, retired El Centro faculty member, was recently named winner of the 2008 Dallas County Community College District Hall of Honor faculty award.

 

Gus was instrumental in the creation of the current Food and Hospitality Service Institute. For 31 years, he directed and grew the program to serve hundreds of students each year. Gus's dedication to his profession led him to become the president of the Greater Dallas Restaurant Association and a Texas Restaurant Association Educational Foundation board member.

He was inducted into the TRA's Hall of Honor in 1993. His professional service has benefited students with scholarships from the Texas Restaurant Association,  an apprenticeship program with the Dallas Chefs Association and more than $500,000 in endowments to the DCCCD Foundation.
